From the City of Red Deer:

Red Deerians looking for a healthy alternative for Halloween giveaways can distribute Boo Booklet tickets to trick-or-treaters.

Starting October 8, Boo Booklets are available for purchase from City recreation facilities, including the Collicutt Centre, G.H. Dawe Community Centre, Michener Aquatic Centre and Recreation Centre. The booklets contain 10 tickets; each ticket is valid for a single child or youth entry to a City recreation facility. Tickets are valid starting November 1 and expire December 31, 2019.

“We want to encourage healthy, active living for Red Deerians, specifically the kids in our community, with this promotion,” said Barb McKee, Recreation Superintendent. “Boo Booklets are a great option for anyone looking for a healthier alternative to candy for trick-or-treaters.”

Supervisor at the Collicutt Centre Denis Delemont says they first came up with this idea last year and knew it would be a great alternative to sugary treats.

"We're in the business of offering healthy alternatives for people to come in, get active and use our recreational activities. So we thought, 'hey why not try to get people to come in and try some activity and other things like that.'."

He says this is just another example of ways their staff comes up with fun and different ways to get youth off the couch and into one of their facilities.

"We wanted to try and offer this kind of thing as another alternative. We do different things throughout the year, like this summer we did a Rip n' Rec pass for youths to... ride the bus and then take part in our drop-in activities, so we thought we would try this one for Halloween as well."
