As of August 28th, 2020, the BOLT Regional Transit System that has been operating in Lacombe since 2015 will no longer serve our city.

Originally rolled out as a partnership between Red Deer, Blackfalds, and Lacombe, the point of the BOLT bus was the fill the gaps created when the Greyhound bus ceased operations in Lacombe.

However, the City decided to end their involvement in the program last fall due to high cost and low ridership.

It was originally scheduled to stop services on September 30th, but they voted to end it earlier to accommodate Blackfald's new on-demand transit service, which you can find more information on by clicking here.

“The decision to cancel the BOLT Regional Transit service was a difficult one, but one we felt was necessary as the substantial investment required by the service did not result in sustainable ridership levels,” Mayor Grant Creasey said. “In these times of fiscal restraint, Council needs to take a lead role in financial stewardship.”

Lacombe FCSS will continue to operate the Lacombe Connex service. Information for Connex can be found by clicking here.

“The City of Lacombe wishes to thank our regional partners for their participation in the BOLT Regional Transit service and we look forward to positive collaboration in the future,” Creasey said.
