In March 2023, Blackfalds RCMP began and investigation into drug trafficking in the Blackfalds and Red Deer areas. As a result of the investigation, on May 2, 2023, Blackfalds General Investigative Section assisted by the Sylvan Lake General Investigative Section, Red Deer General Investigative Section and the RCMP Police Dog Service executed two search warrants in the Glendale Area of Red Deer. As a result of the search police seized:

  • 28.9 grams of suspected Methamphetamine
  • 13.5 grams of suspected Fentanyl
  • 2 firearms (one loaded)

RCMP have charged 31-year-old Chad Daniel Wicket and 39-year-old Candace Danielle Marie Payne both residents of Red Deer with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x2)
  • Possession of the proceeds of crime
  • Selling unpackaged tobacco
  • Multiple Firearms offences

Wicket was arrested and taken before a justice of the peace where he was released with his next court appearance set for June 1, 2023, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.

RCMP have issued an arrest warrant for Candace Payne.
