Blackfalds Days officially kicked off last night with a drive-in movie. Until Sunday (June 19), you can celebrate the town at various exciting events.

Blackfalds Days hasn’t been held for two years and in that time, the Town has seen a few changes including the completion of the Eagle Builders Centre.

“We've combined our grand opening for the Eagle Builders Center into Blackfalds Days this year. We’re very excited to show off that facility for anyone who hasn't seen it. We're starting off the night with the grand opening ceremony and followed by a concert featuring Aaron Pritchett and Neon Smoke Band,” explained Blackfalds’ Mayor, Jamie Hoover.

The Mayor is looking forward to hosting a concert event at a venue that’s ready to accommodate a large crowd.

“This is a stadium type of arena. We have the seating capacity for ice events or arena events of about 1,300 and we can hold concerts in that venue, so with floor seating we're close to 2,500 capacity, so that allows us to hold large events small events,” said Hoover.

The Mayor is also very proud of the Servus Credit Union Library that is also a part of the Eagle Builders Centre as well as the partnership AJL’s Blackfalds Bulldogs.

“It is incredibly exciting for our community to be to be part of that league in what we've been told by many of the teams is probably one of the best junior hockey arenas in Canada,” added Hoover.

The Mayor is excited to finally be able to host the celebration after two years of being unable to host the event due to challenges caused by the pandemic.

“Luckily, the restrictions seem to have gone away in time for us to hold it as per normal. We're having the parade, whereas you know we were contemplating having a limited parade last year with the restrictions. It just didn't work. I don't believe that there's any limits in terms of how we're hosting our events this year,” said Hoover.

He is most looking forward to the parade this year.

“I'm excited that I get to lead the parade. I don't have to walk—well not that I minded doing that. In the past, but I get the right on the on the parade vehicle with our Mayor for the Day. We have a contest every year for youth in our community who make an entry to be mayor for the day. That young lady got to call our meeting with the order this past week and she'll be riding with me in the parade,” said Hoover.

He also added that that the Town will be handing out a ‘boatload’ of candy.
