Innisfail Town Council has given the local Lions Club their blessing to move ahead with the installation of a new play feature at Raspberry Park, a "ZipKrooz".

As Lions Club Treasurer Lance Riley explains, it's a zip line designed for kids “it’s about 60 feet long the line itself, and it’s got like a t-bar handle and the kid would take a little run at it, lift his feet up and zip down the cord for the 60 feet. There’s a little rise at each end so they have a little running start and they just zip back and forth on it. It’s on level ground, it’s not a zip line like for up in the trees down across a river or something, it’s low level so kids can use it”.

Riley says there will be a second line equipped with a harness seat for younger riders or those with mobility challenges.

The club is using the project as a way to mark Canada's 150th birthday; it comes with a price tag of about $52,000 with the Lions Club applying for some grant dollars to help cover the costs.

The idea was born when some club members spotted one of these features in another community according to Riley “there’s only I think 3 in Alberta and the one we observed was on Vancouver Island, so no there’s not very many of them around. I used the one on Vancouver Island and I had fun, it’ll be a blast for the kids”.

They hope to have it installed by late summer.
