There will be a race for mayor in Penhold in this fall's municipal election.

Current Mayor Dennis Cooper will be challenged on the ballot by young Town Councillor Mike Yargeau.

Yargeau was born and raised in Penhold, and has a young family of his own.

It's no surprise that ensuring Penhold continues to be a great place to raise a family is a top priority for him.

“I want to develop the stuff to keep those families in town. We’re so close to Red Deer that people move to Penhold but they don’t really change their lives there, you know even when they want to go to the park, they take their family into the park in Red Deer. We need that stuff in town; we need the recreational areas, the outdoor space, that people will keep their families in the community”.

At 31 years of age, Yargeau believes he's a great example of how the town is growing and he can provide a strong voice for residents.

“I really fit sort of the way that the town is growing; I think I can provide a good voice for the young families that are populating Penhold. I’ve shown ability, I work really well with the neighbouring municipalities and with my Council to get things done and I just think it’s time for a new Mayor and I can be that guy”.

Yargeau is just completing his first term on Town Council, and challenges current Mayor Dennis Cooper, who has served the past 7 years in that capacity and prior 4 terms as a town councillor in Penhold.
