It was both a productive and successful year for the Lacombe County according to Reeve, Paula Law.

“We had a really great summer. We got a lot of our road construction projects finished. We spent the summer going throughout the county coming up to update our community standards for cannabis legislation.”

Cannabis legislation is probably one of the county’s largest ongoing challenges that will continue into 2019.

Law does not seem too concerned with the process of updating the land-use bylaws saying: “We put together some regulations and rules in place knowing full well that this is going to be a work in progress because it’s going to be tweaked, or adjusted, or added to, or taken away.”

The county will also continue to be working on their inter-municipality collaborate framework.  So far, the Lacombe County has integrated four other municipalities, but there is fifteen that remain to be integrated in 2019.

The Lacombe County planning and development department has been organizing and having meetings throughout the county about the land-use bylaws, and their inter-municipality collaborate framework. These meetings and hearings have gained the planning and development department a couple awards.

Overall, it seems that progress is being made in almost all areas and more importantly, it seems that the opinions of the general public are being taken very seriously.
