You will see current Lacombe City Councillor Wayne Rempel's name back on the ballot at this fall's municipal election.

Rempel has declared his intentions, hoping to be re-elected to serve a 3rd term.

High on the priority list for Rempel is to further explore development in the west area near Highway 2.

“There is some land out there, it is a very prime place for some commercial development for sure and we need some of that development to help balance out our taxes, right now with Lacombe being at about 85% residential, 15% commercial, I’d really like to see that change, so that’s one thing I’m definitely going to work towards”.

Rempel says he'd like to see saving for future projects a priority, with more efforts made to plan ahead to eliminate the need for significant tax hikes.

He's also keen to keep the public informed and engaged, and he's hoping to answer resident requests for an open mic session at City Council meetings.

“I really think it’s important that we can hear from people, and not just the stuff on social media, and not just the stuff when people have the time to call you or stop in and see you but a time in front of all of Council where maybe they have some ideas or concerns”.

Rempel says he'd also like to see live streaming of Council meetings so those unable to attend can still follow proceedings at home or the office.

Since being elected in 2007 Rempel is proud of a number of projects, seeing a skatepark for the youth come to fruition, securing a hotel for Lacombe, Highway 2A improvements, and the current Main Street project.
