November 21st - A man for whom warrants of arrest were issued in relation to the murder of a 27-year-old Maskwacis man, as well as the assault of 22-year-old man, also of Maskwacis, earlier this month was arrested last Friday afternoon (Nov 18th) in Wetaskiwin on those charges and has been remanded into custody.

RCMP investigators working on the case located Allan Joseph Soosay (26) in Wetaskiwin on Friday, November 18, and arrested him without incident.

Soosay was taken to the Wetaskiwin RCMP Detachment where the outstanding warrants for second degree murder, assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm were executed.

A bail hearing was conducted the following day and Allan Joseph Soosay was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Wetaskiwin on Thursday, December 1, 2016.

Members of the Maskwacis RCMP Detachment, the RCMP’s Wetaskiwin/Maskwacis General Investigation Section (GIS), the Maskwacis Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) and Major Crimes Unit – South were involved in this investigation.

The RCMP will not be releasing any further information pertaining to this investigation given that it is now before the court, however should additional details become available which may warrant disclosure to the media, an updated media release will be provided.


In the early morning hours, of Friday, November 11, 2016, members of the Maskwacis RCMP Detachment were dispatched to a report of an altercation wherein two men were attacked with edged weapons, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries for one of the men, while the other succumbed to his injuries later and was pronounced deceased at the hospital in Ponoka that same morning.

An autopsy was conducted last night at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary in which the death was ruled a homicide.

The RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit – South (MCU) has taken carriage of the investigation and is being assisted by the RCMP's Wetaskiwin/Maskwacis General Investigation Section (GIS) and the Maskwacis RCMP Detachment's Crime Reduction Unit (CRU).

A Canada-wide warrant of arrest has been issued for 26-year-old Allan Joseph Soosay, who remains at large, for the following criminal offences:

- One count of Second Degree Murder
- Assault with a Weapon
- Assault Causing Bodily Harm.

Allan Joseph Soosay is described as:

- Indigenous male, 26 years of age
- 173 cm (5’8”) tall
- 75 kg (166 lb.) in weight
- Black hair
- Brown eyes

Police warn members of the public not to approach Allan Joseph Soosay if he is seen, but instead to call 911 or their local police service.

On Friday November 11 2016 at 5:13 am Police responded to a male who had been in a physical altercation.

The male was taken to the Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

RCMP Major Crimes South has taken carriage of the file and are working with the Wetaskiwin/Maskwacis GIS, the Maskwacis Crime Reduction Unit and the Red Deer Forensic Identification Section

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday November 14 at 1:00 pm.

Police believe this was not a random act and the public is not at risk.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time at the request of the family.
