Village of Alix went above and beyond this Remembrance Day, recognizing those who served and are currently serving this country with the addition of the Alix Avenue of Heros.

Flags have been raised along Highway 12 in the cooperate limits of Alix, honouring those who sacrificed their lives for this country and the servicemen and service women who continue to do so.

Along with the flags, a sign was put up on the eastside of the village marking the strip of highway which was unveiled Saturday (Nov.11) afternoon.

Mayor Rob Fehr said it’s something the community can be extremely proud of.

“I think it’s something that will really draw the community together. We have several veterans that have served all the way back from the first world war and onwards. It’s great to see them recognized as well as the first responders, the unsung heroes that people don’t usually think about until the time of need.”

“It’s great to see them recognized for all the things they’ve achieved and continue to do.”

Alix resident Charles Andrews spearheaded the project with the help of the Village and the Alix Wagon Wheel Museum, and said it’s a great addition to their community.

“Hopefully people, as they drive through the Village, will look at the flags and see the signs and take the time to reflect and be grateful for all those who have served and those currently serving in those various areas.”

A fund has been created by the museum to help pay for future maintenance costs in relation to the project.

Country artist George Canyon will play at the Alix Community Hall on Nov. 26 to help raise money.

The Alix Avenue of Heros is an inniative done in part of the celebration of Canada’s 150th and Alix’s 110th anniversary.
