Work will start this summer or early this fall to upgrade the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Highway 2A in Blackfalds to a signalized intersection.

Alberta Transportation is requiring the improvements in order for a new shopping centre to go ahead on the south end of the community.

Mayor Melodie Stol says Council has also approved a new budget for the project.

“Originally the budget last year was less, but we have increased the budget by about a million dollars, but we really expanded the scope. We wanted to make sure all of the necessary work got done in one shot as opposed to breaking it up into some smaller pieces of work, and we feel we got excellent, competitive pricing this year, so take advantage of the good pricing and make sure all of the work is done”.
Total budget for the upgrades is just over 3.5 million dollars.

Elkay Developments is looking to proceed with Blackfalds Crossing, a new shopping centre planned just south of the Co-op Gas Bar and north of the roundabout.
