United Way Central Alberta turned their usual Celebration Breakfast into a COVID-friendly Campaign Celebration Roadshow that took place in six different Central Albertans communities. The roadshow stopped eight of the 25 agencies across Alberta that will be receiving funding for 2021-2022.

“At the beginning of the campaign and throughout we talked about the need being bigger than ever and the community stepped up to answer this challenge. We can’t thank them enough for their generosity. Because of this and despite the pandemic, we wanted to hold a live, covid-safe celebration,” said Brett Speight, UWCA CEO. “There is so much to celebrate, too much to convey with a virtual-style event.”

The 2020 United Way Central Alberta campaign fundraised $1.83 million for vulnerable populations. The donation total sits above United Way’s 2019 campaign which saw $1.82 million donation.

Work place awards went to the following organizations:

  • NOVA Chemicals for their $807,000 donation
  • MEGlobal for their $161,828 donation
  • INEOS for their $51,805 donation
  • DOW Chemical of the Innovation Award
  • Red Deer College for the Rising Star Award
  • Alberta Health Services for the Outstanding Employee Campaign Coordinator Award

“We wanted to acknowledge the valuable and consistent help these agencies have offered the residents of Central Alberta, particularly in this incredibly difficult year,” said Edie Hiebert, 2020 Campaign Chairperson. “Most of them have been unable to hold their traditional fundraising activities and have experienced significant increases to their caseloads.”
