A Lacombe business specialized in visual communications found a unique client recently: producing wraps for the Nigerian Olympic bobsled team.

Strand Media president Bruce Clark says they first made wraps for the Australians on their way to the Sochi Games. Over time, word spread to the Nigerians.

“The bobsled community is pretty tight-knit so when these girls from Nigeria actually bought the same sled from the Brazilians, who got it somehow from the Australians, they were told that we were the company that did all the wraps for them,” Clark says.

“So they sent me a text a few weeks ago and I was sitting at the farmer’s bonspiel. Asked if I wanted to wrap their Nigerian bobsled. I joked back, I don’t think there is a Nigerian bobsled, you’re pulling my leg. But lo and behold, there is.”

Clark says the team has asked that he keep the design secret until the Olympics.

He plans to keep a close eye on the competition in South Korea.

“Once you know the people who are racing these bobsleds, it makes it all the more interesting to watch,” he says.

“The Nigerian sled goes down the track Feb. 20.”
