Ponoka RCMP located a stolen vehicle parked at a fuel station near 5302 Highway 2A, Ponoka on October 1st, 2020.

The vehicle was determined to have been stolen from the Sylvan Lake earlier that day. Officers conducted a vehicle stop and told the three occupants they were under arrest.

Two suspects fled the vehicle and were pursued by an officer on foot. The driver attempted to start the stolen vehicle with a screwdriver. Then, an interaction occurred between an officer and the driver who resisted arrest but was taken into custody.

With additional police resources, RCMP was able to locate one of the males who matched the surveillance footage from the fuel station. One suspect was able to flee the situation and his identity remains unknown at this time.

A vehicle search led to the seizure of a prohibited baton as well as break-in instruments.

27-year-old Kenton James Wood of Ponoka was charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Resisting arrest
  • Failure to comply with conditions
  • Driving an unauthorized vehicle
  • Driving an uninsured motor vehicle

35-year-old Peter George Walker of Innisfail has been charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Resisting arrest
  • Failure to comply with conditions

Wood and Walker are scheduled to appear in Ponoka Provincial Court on October 16th, 2020.
