Around 3:00 pm on Thursday, September 17th, 2020, an Alberta RCMP Traffic officer was on Highway 11 west of Rocky Mountain House, when he saw a vehicle on the side of the road with a pair of legs sticking out of the rear driver's side door.

The officers pulled over to see if anyone needed help and discovered the vehicle had been stolen out of Edmonton three days earlier. The driver and rear passenger were asleep at the time, so the officer was able to secure the vehicle's keys before arresting them.

The 25-year-old male driver from Central Alberta is facing a number of charges, including:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000 and
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000 as further investigation showed the licence plate had been stolen from a different vehicle.

The 24-year-old passenger, also from Central Alberta, was charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000 and
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000.

He also had seven outstanding warrants for his arrest for unrelated offences, and he was held in custody until a court hearing at a later date.
