The Alberta Government announced more than $1 million worth of trail enhancements and infrastructure funding in David Thompson Country. 

Included on this list of improvements is Shunda (Fish) Lake, Big Horn Dam, Preachers Point, and the rail trail from Rocky Mountain House to Nordegg.

Funding is being provided from the 2020 provincial capital budget, which includes more than $43 million for provincial parks and public land infrastructure.

Many provincial parks are seeing record numbers of visitors this summer, and have added additional garbage cans, washrooms, and signage to ensure visitors are respectful to all public areas. 

Project Quick Facts:

  • $660,000 for the Clearwater Rail Trail Project for development and enhancement of the rail trail from Rocky Mountain House to Nordegg
  • $250,000 towards the Big Horn Dam Safety Enhancement for the installation of four outhouses, new signage for trails and rerouting trails around hazards
  • $200,000 for Shunda (Fish) Lake by Nordegg for upgrades to non-motorized trails around the lake
  • $70,000 for Preachers Point Site Enhancement for safety enhancements for campers along the river, including road?trail maintenance, and creation of a ring road system
