Town of Sylvan Lake is looking for volunteers to shovel driveways and entranceways of community residences in need, throughout the winter.

Snow Angels-Adopt a Driveway is a volunteer service program where people in the community including businesses, organizations and youth groups can offer their services in snow removal.

Residents eligible for the service include households of one, making just less than $27,000 a year and households of two, making just less than a combined $44,000. They must be 65 and over or living with a disability.

The Town’s communication officer Joanne Gaudet said the more volunteers, the better.

“We ask volunteers to step up and we do vet the volunteers and then we assign them to one of our qualified residents to help them stay in their house longer and allow them to continue with their independence by staying in their home."

Guadet said, based on the past with other programs, she expects a high amount of people to sign up.

"It varies, but we are seeing an increase every year in some of these programs. The Snow Angels program is growing and the more people learn about it, the more it will become known in the community and I expect that to happen."

Volunteers are required to complete an application form and a criminal check to participate in the program.
