The Town of Blackfalds is participating in a community project to produce a mosaic mural celebrating Canada 150 and the country’s cultural and geographic diversity.

Blackfalds council approved $15,000 from reserves to produce the Canada Mosaic Mural.

An artist named Lewis Lavoie will visit the town and consult the community, gauging what they want to see in the mural. Then he will produce three to five designs that people can vote on through social media.

According to Sean Barnes, director of community services, the public will then be involved with painting the individual tiles.

“We’re going to get the elementary schools involved. We’ll get 300 kids to do the 300 tiles and we’re going to look at the public to come for one day and have 100 tiles done,” Barnes said.

“We’ll have the whole 600 tiles done and then of course the artist will do the other 200.”

The Community Centre and Abbey Centre have been thrown around as possible locations for display.
