The Town of Blackfalds has given their new library located at the Eagle Builders Centre at the location of the old Blackfalds Multiplex (5302 Broadway Avenue). The new library will be called the Servus Credit Union Library.

Blackfalds Mayor Richard Poole says the town’s partnership with Blackfalds has been a very important one.

“Servus Credit Union has been part of our community for years and years. Each time a new project comes forward, they look at different ways that they can participate. This is inclusive and available to all ages. It was a perfect partnership and we are so pleased that the Servus stepped up,” explained Poole.

Poole says the new library space will be approximately twice the size of the town’s current library located at the Blackfalds Civic Cultural Centre. The library will have two levels, meeting rooms, youth programming areas,  and a rooftop patio area.

“The outdoor learning space is going to be a dynamic space that will be used for a whole bunch of activities and we're just so excited about the potential,” added Poole

He says the library staff is currently working out how to develop the outdoor space and how they will be using it.

With Blackfalds growing population, Poole expects the new library space to be a welcome addition to the town.

“This is going to serve Blackfalds far into the future. We're growing. We're a dynamic. This is going to provide all the extra space for meetings and extra program needs. It's going to provide for us far into the future,” said Poole.

He also believes the library being conveniently located inside the Eagle Builder’s Centre will be a valuable asset to the community. The Centre will provide a space to recreate with the new 1,300 seat arena as well as the library.

Poole expects the entire facility to be completed by the end of August or early September. Overall, the he looks forward to seeing the building completed and is thankful for the support the project has received.
