About 30 people had the thrill of a life time Saturday afternoon in Red Deer, helping to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish foundation.

It may not be for everyone, but these brave individuals rappelled down 12 storeys of the Stantec Executive Place building in support of Make-A-Wish’s Rope for Hope.

Each participant raised a minimum of $1,500, which will be used locally to grant wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions.

One of those thrill seekers was Andrea Rose, who raised $1,800, she says it was scary, but worth it.

“I just thought it would be a great experience and kind of fun to get past my fear of heights and try it out. I think it’s such a great cause to be able to help a kid get their wish. Who wouldn’t want to do that?”

It’s the first year Rope for Hope has been held in Red Deer and Development and Event Coordinator for Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta Heather Harcott says they couldn’t have asked for better support.

“It goes from sponsors, to volunteers, to fundraisers to donors. The collective effort is what really makes this event run and all the donations, whether it’s $20 or $2,000, helps immensely.”

Over $63,000 was raised for the event. To donate or find out more on how ways to help, click here.
