“This is a terrible situation,” said Calkins in a release sent Monday afternoon.

It continues, "The residents of Bentley were given very little notice of this change in service and have had no opportunity to fully explore other possible options to retain retail postal services."

Calkins says it's "ludicrous" and a violation of the Canadian Postal Service Charter that residents need to drive 50 kilomteres to pick up or drop off parcels.

He says he's written to the Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Public Services and Procurement, to intervene.

Earlier on Monday, the town held a rally on main street to protest the closure.
