For anyone driving on Taylor Drive in Red Deer during the overnight hours this weekend, be prepared for some road closures due to bridge construction.

Starting tonight, both directions of Taylor Drive will be closed from 9pm until 9am on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and from 8:30pm until 7am, on Monday and Tuesday.

The reason for the closure is for the construction being done on the bridges that will go over Taylor Drive. Cranes will be moving large steel girders over Taylor Drive to be put into place, which is the reason the road has to be closed to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

The lane closures will cover both directions of traffic during those hours, from 19th St. South, towards the Highway 2 on and off ramps.

Motorists wanting to head south on Taylor Dr. will be re-routed to the Highway 2/32 Street interchange then back to the Highway 2A turn-off.

Motorists wanting to travel north on Taylor Dr. from Highway 2A will be detoured to the Highway 2/McKenzie Rd. interchange then back north on Highway 2 to access Taylor Drive from 19 Street.

Speed limits on Highway 2 will be reduced to 50 km/hr in the evenings, with intermittent traffic stoppages on Highway 2 of up to five minutes while the girders are removed from the delivery trucks.

Detailed information and sketches showing the detour routes can be found on the project website at Hwy2Gaetz.com.
