Calling his first 4 year term incredible and amazing, the Mayor of Sylvan Lake says he's thankful for the opportunity to lead, and he will be seeking re-election this fall.

Sean McIntyre says the best part of the experience so far has been building a sense of community, and it's the community he points to when he looks back at everything Sylvan Lake has accomplished during his time as Mayor.

“We as Sylvan Lakers, as a community have a lot to celebrate, in Hockeyville, in the construction of this great NexSource Centre that we have, a new fire hall, building new parks, buying the lakefront park property so that our residents can enjoy it, buying the property for recreation in the southwest”.

McIntyre feels his work has only just begun when it comes to building that sense of community among residents.

He has a vision to work together with residents to build a complete community that is resident focused and visitor friendly.

“You know a complete community means that we are always taking a look at ourselves to say you know what’s working well, what needs attention and what sort of gaps do we need to fill.  We need to do that through a lens that says our residents come first and foremost, but we also need to be visitor friendly, and being visitor friendly is one of the things that has helped our community weather the recent economic downturn”.

There are a number of projects and public consultations coming up that McIntyre would definitely love to see through, including some focus on core infrastructure projects like water and wastewater needs and ensuring streets and utilities can serve the community well into the future.

The community will also soon be helping to plan the re-development of Lakefront Park and 50th Street and the development of Pogadl Park in the southwest.
