Sylvan Lake has been doing great things to improve their recycling systems around the city.

The province has noticed, and has awarded them the Alberta Recycling Collection Site Award of Excellence for it.

Mayor Sean McIntyre was in attendance to receive the award.

“Our staff have worked very hard on improving things at the waste transfer site, it’s much more efficient it’s much more clean and user friendly now, and were very proud of the work that they have done.”

The items that can be recycled at the site include electronics like televisions and computers, paint, tires and yard or kitchen waste.

“We’ve made quite a few improvements at our waste transfer site in Sylvan Lake to make sure that things are organized and safe and effective and were very happy to have been recognized at a provincial level for those improvements.”

He says they also have a new curbside automated recycling; now trucks equipped with arms pick up the recycling bags as opposed to struggling with ‘bulky bins.’ McIntyre says this new method is more efficient.

They have also recently installed around 30 cigarette butt recycling receptacles along the beach in hopes to cut down on butts around the beachfront.
