The Town of Sylvan Lake is looking towards their future, while also ensuring the needs of its current citizens are being met.

At last week’s council meeting, they took a look at the final report for the 2019 strategic planning session, where they put their focus on core infrastructure, corporate sustainability, communications, and economic development.

Mayor of Sylvan Lake Sean McIntyre says they want to make sure the services they currently offer aren't being neglected in favour of newer and more exciting ideas.

“One shift that we made was putting a real emphasize on service excellence, making sure that the services we provide as a municipality are the best they can be, so we are going to make a concerted effort as a municipality to try and review and enhance those services where we can.”

McIntyre goes on to say what some of those priorities are.

“Our focus right now is on core infrastructure, on corporate sustainability, communications, and economic development, and that spurs off into a lot of different elements of our community.”

Some of the services McIntyre says they plan on reviewing and enhancing include snow and ice control, parks and recreation programs, and their FCSS.

He points to things like the NexSource Centre and the North Red Deer Regional Wastewater Services Commission as prime examples of the good work to come out of these strategic sessions.
