The Town of Sylvan Lake will soon be looking for a new Chief Administrative Officer.

Current CAO Betty Osmond has announced her plans to retire once her contract ends on May 6th of 2018.

Although she’s enjoyed her time as CAO, she’s excited about the change.

“I’m looking forward to having more time with my family and for some of my recreational activities, but it’s going to be a big loss (for me), I have a great workforce and a good council. I really have a lot of interesting activities every day that are a part of my job so that’s going to be the big change.”

A search to fill the position will start once a firm is selected to handle the recruitment process.

Osmond said there’s a lot work that goes into the job.

“We deal with a lot of different things. Municipalities handled everything from snow clearing to cemeteries, to recreational programs, to preventative social service. I never have to worry about boredom or repetition; there are big issues and small issues to deal with.”

Mayor Sean McIntyre had many good things to say about Osmond.

“Mrs. Osmond has served the Town of Sylvan Lake diligently and with excellence. CAO is a vital leadership role in municipalities, and in a rapidly growing community like Sylvan Lake, it is crucial to have the right person for the job, which Betty certainly is.”

“Over the past seven years, we have made great strides as a community thanks to Mrs. Osmond’s wealth of experience, professional advice, and organizational leadership. As Mayor and on behalf of my colleagues on Council for the Town of Sylvan Lake, I want to thank Mrs. Osmond for all of her hard work and the passion with which she has served our community.”

Osmond has filled the position since 2010.
