With a fairly decent long weekend forecast outside of today, Sylvan Lake will be a popular long weekend destination.

In fact, the Beach Ambassadors in the resort community are reporting increased lake traffic this year compared to last, likely due to a number of hot days so far this summer.

Shannon O'Callaghan is hitting the beach for her 2nd year as a Beach Ambassador; she explains where people are coming from.

“The high majority visiting from Edmonton and Calgary, that Central Alberta area, but there is that two to three per cent from international places around the world and about five per cent from other areas in Canada.”

When it comes to activities, many are talking about the new Aqua Splash on the lake, which is essentially a floating obstacle course according to co-owner Charlie Everest.

“So out on the lake we have everything from trapeze swings, to monkey bars, to a double XL tower to a bouncy dome, to one of those bounce bags where you jump on and the other kid goes flying.”

“To trampolines, to slope corners, roundabouts, clips, slide all that kind of good stuff.”

Max capacity for the Aqua Splash is 115 people; their best day so far saw nearly 500 take the challenge during an 8 hour period.

The Beach Ambassador program works to take visitor information right to the people on the Lakeshore, making 3 people available to answer questions and promote amenities.

They wear bright yellow shirts and have a bike chalked full of visitor guides and materials and promotional items to different services and attractions in Sylvan.
