On May 15, 2017 at around 5:45 pm, Blackfalds RCMP were alerted by the public, of an erratic driver in a field, East of Red Deer.

RCMP attended and located the vehicle, however, the occupants fled on foot and containment was set up, while the Red Deer RCMP dog services attend the scene.

A short time later, a male suspect was brought to the attention of one of the RCMP members at the scene.

The male fled on foot, however was located and placed under arrest a short distance away, by the pursing RCMP officer.

Investigations revealed the male was in possession of a sawed off shotgun and ammunition.

Identity was confirmed after the male lied about is identity and 31 year old Kurt WERNER faces multiple charges stemming from this event, which include the firearms offences.

He was also wanted on 18 outstanding warrants from Red Deer City RCMP and Rocky Mountain house RCMP .

He was held in custody and is to appear at the Red Deer Provincial Court on all matters on May 18, 2017.
