The Public School Boards’ Association of Alberta held an award ceremony on Saturday in Red Deer recognizing the contributions of public school trustees, administrators and members of the community.

Each year, the school board offers their thanks to those who have promoted and shown their support to public school education.

Sunny 94 received the Special Contribution to Public Education-Media award, for playing a role in promoting and supporting public education.

Wolf Creek Public Schools was kind enough to nominate our radio station, lead by Chair Lorrie Jess.

“You (Sunny 94) give scholarships in our schools and you’re always supporting our schools in advertising for what we are doing in the classroom. You have pizza party days and you’re just very supportive in the community letting people know what’s going on,” said Jess.

President of Public School Boards’ Association of Alberta Arlene Hrynyk was also recognized, receiving the Advancing Association Business Award for her significant contribution on the committee.

“I think we all know that I am very honoured, absolutely humbled, but I think I just set out to the job they asked me do. It was a bit of a shock to me, a surprise, but I am extremely grateful that they considered I was worthy of that award,” said Hrynyk.

The Public School Boards' Association of Alberta awards luncheon also recognized Secretary Treasurer of Wolf Creek Public School Joe Henderson and Tolko Industries with the Special Contribution to Public School Education award.

The efforts of Drayton Valley News and Nicole Gamer were also recognized with the Special Contribution to Public Education-Media award.
