Every year, Sunny 94 and Golden West Radio give back to our community in ways that promote the growth of Canadian musical talent.

In the past, we have contributed to local music, drama, and performing arts programs, and this year is no different.

Earlier on in the year we made a contribution to the Music in the Park/Lacombe Performing Arts Centre, and earlier today we dropped off a cheque for $2,000 to Lacombe Composite High School for their musical theatre class.

Trisha Achtymichuk is the Musical Theatre Director at LCHS, and she says putting on plays and performing in front of an audience not only develops important life skills, it often becomes one of the fondest memories for the students.

"I still talk to kids from 30 years ago who were in the music program, and they still talk about the fact that, the music part of it was the most fun. These kids are so close by the end of a show, because it is stressful, and it's out of their comfort zone, and people are applauding them, and then they realize what an amazing thing they have done. And they remember that from high school, more than they remember my English classes (laughs)".

The money will go to purchasing costumes, sets, and to help pay for the licensing fees to put on some of the productions, which is usually the most expensive part of putting on high school plays.

In the past, they school has put on performances of Fiddler on the Roof, Guys and Dolls, and Joseph and the Amazing technicolored Dream coat.
