On January 31st, 2017, at approximately 5:30 p.m., a Sheriff with the Wetaskiwin Integrated Traffic Unit conducted a traffic stop that resulted in a significant drug seizure.

The sheriff had pulled over the west bound black Ford Escape for speeding on Highway 13, near Highway 814.

An RCMP member also attended the traffic stop, determined there was marihuana in the vehicle, and arrested the driver for possession of Marihuana.

A search of the vehicle produced 322 grams of cocaine, 88 grams of crystal meth, a small amount of cannabis marihuana, anabolic steroids, and a small amount of cash.

“This is a significant find,” Says Constable Holly Porterfield, Wetaskiwin RCMP Media Resource Officer. “Thanks to the investigational skills of our members a significant amount of dangerous drugs won’t be sold in our community.”

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, Ricky Lysohirka, 28, of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cannabis marihuana, possession of an anabolic steroid, possession of property obtained by crime, and speeding.

Mr Lysohirka will have his next court appearance in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court February 14th, 2017.
