Students at Iron Ridge Elementary in Blackfalds had the chance to enjoy the warm weather this morning, while learning.

Healthy eating, active living and positive social environments were the focus of the school’s Healthy Living Fair.

Students learned about maintaining a healthy heart, the negative effects of sugar and bike safety.

Constable John Szerve with Blackfalds RCMP focused on key areas of how to properly operate a bike.

“We’ve got the breaks, lights, reflectors, seat height and things like that so they know exactly where they should be,” said Szerve.

“That way they can ride safely, and how to cross the streets safely.”

Students also learned about things like dental health, karate and art therapy.

Grade 2 teacher and event organizer Melanie Quance said it's a great way for kids to learn.

“Having done this in the past we’ve noticed that it even just trickles out to the community through the kids and they’re taking this information home with them and sharing it with their parents and having those discussions.”

“They’re very engaged and absolutely love the day.”

Healthy Living Fair is an annual event.
