Lacombe Composite High School students got to show off their creative side this past weekend.

For the third year in a row, Grade 10 through 12 students had their work on display at the Encore Annual Art Sale, ranging from portraits to abstracts.

For Art Teacher Stacey Hunter, there’s no better way to keep the students motivated than to have their work out in the community.

“I have some students who do excellent work, you need a place to show it,” said Hunter.

“I also think it’s the responsibility of the artist to share with the community and to give back and I really encourage that with my students.”

Students spend hundreds of hours on these paintings and Hunter said she’s extremely proud of what they’ve been able to accomplish.

A local art club also got a chance to show of some their work over the weekend.

The Lacombe Art Guild had their own display at the event which featured acrylic, oil and silk paintings.

Club president June Lundie says the art scene in Lacombe is taking off right now

“We get more and more members signing up  because they’re just excited to have a place to come an do art and we have instructors from all over who are really awesome art instructors.”

The club meets from October to May every second and third Tuesday of each month at the Lacombe Memorial Centre.  Classes cost $25 for non-members and $20 for members.
