There were smiles all around today after a fun, pay it forward initiative by Sobeys led to a cash injection for Lacombe Big Brothers Big Sisters.

To celebrate Canada's 150th, Sobeys locations across western Canada participated in 'Canada Screams for Ice Cream' last Saturday, where they offered up ice cream treats for a $2 donation in support of local youth organizations.

Lynda Bouchard with Lacombe Sobeys is thanking the community for getting behind the cause.

“It went over really well, we were excited about the launch that Sobeys did for it, and we had a lot of participation, a lot of excitement in the store. We did very well in Central Alberta. We were one of the top stores in the area”.

Sobeys matched all donations at events across Western Canada, up to a total of $100,000.

With the matching dollars, Bouchard was able to present a cheque for $1069 to Crystal Zens with Lacombe Big Brothers Big Sisters, who says they will put those funds towards programming costs for their traditional and in-school mentoring programs.
