Residents in Red Deer would like to see more money spent on snow removal, when it comes to determining the 2018 budget.

The lack of snow maintenance in residential areas was a hot topic at last night’s Budget 2018 Open House hosted by the City.

People got the chance to voice their opinions on how tax payer’s money should be allocated.

Jessica Bernard recently moved to Red Deer from Ontario and said her car took a beating this winter.

“One thing that really stands out for me is road and snow maintenance. I’m not use to having snow zones that get plowed, so my car kind of took a hit last winter.”

“Personally, I think that more money should be invested in to it.”

Mayor Tara Veer said the City has recognized it as an area of concern and the issue will be addressed in either the 2018 or 2019 budget.

The lack of trails being built in new sub divisions was also a cause concern.

Celia Hayton said the lack of trails expanding into new developments is something that’s hurting those who want to stay active and enjoy Red Deer’s trail system.

“We have a great trail system, but now that we are getting more suburbs, it seems to be falling and people are having to travel to park areas, rather than enjoy them in their own neighborhoods.”

Veer said the feedback is vital to their decision making and encourages the public to fill out their online survey regarding the budget at www.reddeer.ca.
