If you’ve ever wondered what Lacombe looks like from a birds-eye view, this weekend is the perfect opportunity.

Lacombe Flying Club and the Central Alberta Gliding Club teamed up and are offering residents small planes and glider rides in support of a good cause.

Proceeds from the 20-25-minute ride, lead by pilots out of Innisifail, are going towards Lacombe Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Glider pilot and former president of the Central Alberta Gliding Club Valarie Deschamps said they jumped at the chance to give back.

“We like to get people involved, we love having charitable aspects to what we do. We regularly donate stuff from our club, so it’s just another aspect.”

Different from a small plane, a glider has only a small or no engine at all, and relies on the weather conditions to determine how long the flight is.

Graeme Wilson, who’s travelled to Lacombe from Scotland to visit family, describes his experience in a glider.

“It’s amazing. It’s just completely effortless. You take off and it feels like are flying, you’re following the plane as you go up and as soon as the line goes, you’re on your own and it’s just completely peaceful.”

“The air is coming through the window and it’s nice conditions. It was absolutely fantastic.”

Each ride costed $150 with $25 going towards Lacombe Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Ride will be offered until the sun begins to set today.
