Women's Outreach is holding its sixth annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes in Red Deer this Thursday, a men's march in pumps to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence.

The event is a fundraiser where participants take pledges, with proceeds going toward supporting the agency’s programs and services. Last year’s walk raised close to $50,000, according to fund development officer Darcy Ouellet.

It’s also a chance to raise awareness about sexual violence. As Ouellet explains, people are talking about more than just their sore feet, having conversations about a tough subject.

“Walking a mile in a pair of high heels, there’s a reason why we only do it once a year but we put a humorous spin on such a horrible topic and people really love that they can support it that way,”.

Registration for the event takes place at 11 a.m.  The walk starts at noon, from the Women’s Outreach office.
