Local roadside workers are reminding people to slow down and move over when passing them on a highway.

Roadside workers are constantly putting themselves in dangerous situations to help out people on the highway, and collisions occur frequently.

Local tow truck driver Wayne Popow says that tonight (March 7) they will hold the annual rally to remind drivers that it's an ongoing problem.

"We're just making awareness about roadside workers... when you see us on the side of the road slow to slow down and/or move over to the adjacent lane if it's possible."

The Slow Down, Move Over campaign is national and occurs every year. Popow says you can expect to see them at the Bear Hills truck stop tonight around 7 p.m.

Popow says they’ll simply be working to remind motorists how to respond when coming upon an emergency situation or tow truck at work according to Alberta law.

"Whether it be police, ambulance fire, roadside construction companies... when the lights flashing slow down."

Popow says that the collisions happen quite often, and the rules could definitely be tightened.

The rally will be held around Highway 2 and 2A, Highway 11A and the Bear Hills truck stop this evening between 7 and 8 pm... he says all are welcome.
