If you haven't heard of Sandy Point Beach, you will soon.

Located on the west side of Gull Lake, the attraction spans six and a half acres, where visitors can take the boat out, play beach volleyball or walk the trails.

Lacombe County Reeve Paula Law says the county required that the developers of Sandy Point RV Resort build public amenities that would be handed over to the municipality to maintain. The result is Sandy Point Beach as it appears today.

"It's a great way of seeing how a partnership can work between a developer and the county," Law said.

Lacombe County held its grand opening to celebrate the beach yesterday (Aug 23rd). Bentley Mayor Lynda Haarstad-Petten helped cut the ribbon. She had been looking forward to the day.

"I think this is absolutely incredible. I was born and raised around Bentley so I've known about Sandy Point for years and I always knew one day, it would be developed. It's such a benefit, not only to Bentley but this entire area," Haarstad-Petten said.

"I suspect within the next year, this little gem will be really well-known."

According to county statistics, an average of 130 people visited Sandy Point Beach this summer, peaking at 925 on July 15.
