The Town of Ponoka is proud to help sponsor the Rotary Club of Ponoka’s flag pole project in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday.

Ponoka Town Council recently approved a $1,000 donation toward the project.

In addition to the donation, Town staff worked with the Rotary Club and other local businesses last week to erect a 60-foot flag pole next to the Town’s electronic sign at the intersection of Highway 2A and Highway 53 – just in time for Canada Day!

As a gift to the community, the Rotary Club has purchased the flag pole and a 9-by-18-foot Canadian flag that will be hung from the pole at a Grand Raising ceremony on June 30 at 9 a.m. sharp, just before the 2017 Stampede Parade kicks off.

Members of the public are welcome to join the Rotary Club in singing O Canada as the flag is raised. The Rotary Club has committed to replacing the flag as needed in the future.

The Club will also be installing a sign at the base of the pole recognizing all sponsors of the project, who include: Town of Ponoka, Ponoka County, Almita Piling, Alberta Flares, Calnash Trucking, Shoppers Drug Mart, Will’s Welding, and Accu Publishing.
