On Tuesday, November 22, 2016, a diligent Rocky Mountain House RCMP officer conducted a traffic stop and subsequently seized a significant amount of counterfeit Canadian currency.

The occupants of the vehicle were arrested and a search warrant was executed at their residence in Rocky Mountain House.

Further evidence, such as computers, scanners, printers and additional counterfeit money were seized in the residence during the search warrant.

Police have charged a 34 year old male and a 30 year old female with the following offences:

- Possession of counterfeit currency;
- Making counterfeit currency;
- Possession of tools/items for making counterfeit currency;
- Possession of methamphetamine;
- Possession of cocaine.

Both accused persons have been released from custody with strict conditions and will appear in Rocky Mountain House Provincial Court on January 11, 2017 to speak to the charges.

At this time, their names are not being released pending further investigation. Recently, Central Alberta has experienced an increase in the passing of counterfeit Canadian and US Dollars.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP are reminding citizens, especially those working in service industries, to be vigilant when receiving cash money from any individual and to ensure that it is genuine.
