On Wednesday, October 25, 2017, members of the Rocky Mountain House RCMP Detachment, RCMP Police Dog Section and numerous Mounties on All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) conducted patrols on the Sunchild and O'Chiese First Nations in response to reports of sightings of stolen vehicles and a number of outstanding arrest warrants that existed for members of the community.

During the operation, police arrested six (6) persons who were "wanted" for outstanding warrants for various criminal offences, including break and enter, drug trafficking, domestic violence and other serious crimes.  In one case, officers observed a white SUV flee a residence on the Sunchild First Nation.  Officers quickly contained the area and a male and female in the vehicle hid the SUV behind a residence on the O'Chiese First Nation.  A 31 year old male, wanted on outstanding drug trafficking and firearms offences was found hiding in the attic of the residence.  He was armed with a weapon at the time of arrest.  Police recovered a sawed off .22 calibre rifle that had been shortened on both the barrel and the stock to make it into a makeshift pistol, knives and other illegal items during the arrest.

Police located a stolen Honda ATV hidden in the bush, however, there are no suspects for this offence at this time.

RCMP will continue to work with the Chief and Council and elders of both First Nations in an effort to make our community safer.
