2018 marks Red Deer RCMP’s 75th anniversary serving the citizens of Red Deer, and RCMP are celebrating by hosting a Regimental Ball on September 15, with all funds raised going to Red Deer Victim Services and the Red Deer Food Bank.

Inspector Dean LaGrange says it's all about bringing people together.

“These events take place once every several years, they don’t take place every year, and the last one in Red Deer was in 2011. It’s really a celebration for the community and the police to get together and celebrate the respect that we have for each other.”

He says those that will be in attendance to the exclusive event include police officers and their families, friends, business leaders in the community and various dignitaries.

It was sold out, with over 300 tickets sold. The ball begins at 6 pm on September 15 and includes cocktails, dinner, silent and live auctions, and a dance featuring Woodhouse Big Band. All funds raised will go to support the important work that Red Deer Victim Services and the Red Deer Food Bank do in the community.

“It’s a lot of work putting these things together and a lot of volunteer hours go into this so it’s just a real special occasion for the community and the police service to come together and break bread.”

Red Deer has 170 members of the RCMP, but LaGrange says not to worry, police will still be patrolling the streets since not all of them will be attending the event.
