A Red Deer man faces 17 Criminal Code charges related to forgery and counterfeiting after RCMP arrested him at a restaurant the evening of July 21 and found him to be in possession of stolen and altered identification, forged government cheques and counterfeiting equipment.   

RCMP attended a restaurant in south Red Deer shortly before 7:30 pm in response to a report of a suspicious man.

On arrival, RCMP located the suspect, who was wanted on numerous outstanding warrants out of Innisfail for charges including fraud, assault, uttering threats, failing to comply with court-ordered conditions and failing to appear in court.

During the course of his arrest, Red Deer RCMP located a knife, a loaded pellet gun and numerous stolen identity documents, some of which had been altered.

RCMP also seized identity documents and personal documentation involving approximately 13 victims, including a letter of approval for a credit card in the name of one of the victims, 15 counterfeit US $50 bills, a number of forged government cheques and counterfeiting equipment. 

26 year old Brenden Darcy Bowe faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 90(1) – Carry concealed weapon        
  • Criminal Code 450(b) – Possess counterfeit money    
  • Criminal Code 56.1 – Illegal trafficking in government documents X 5        
  • Criminal Code 368(1)(d) – Use/ traffic/ possess forged document X 6     
  • Criminal Code 351(1) – Possess break-in instruments     
  • Criminal Code 369(a) – Possess revenue paper      
  • Criminal Code 458(d) – Possess counterfeiting tools         
  • Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions.

Bowes will make his first court appearance in Red Deer on August 2 at 8:30 am. 

RCMP continue to investigate and will issue updates if more charges are laid.
