Three people are facing numerous criminal charges after Red Deer RCMP arrested them in a stolen vehicle with a firearm and a large sword. 

Shortly before 2:30 am on September 17, RCMP located a stolen Ford Escape as it drove through south Red Deer.

RCMP laid a tire deflation device that flattened both of the car’s front tires; the vehicle sped away, driving erratically until it became incapacitated, hit the median at the intersection of Taylor Drive and Kerry Wood Drive and entered the park system, coming to rest in a treed area. 

The male driver and a female passenger attempted to flee the car on foot but were arrested by RCMP, while three more passengers remained in the car and were taken into custody by RCMP.

Two passengers were later released without charge.

RCMP seized a sword and a rifle from the car and located a second loaded rifle near the collision scene. 

25 year old Jerad Cory Matheson faces the following charges:

•         Criminal Code 249(1)(a) – Dangerous operation of motor vehicle

•         Criminal Code 249.1(1) – Fail to stop in order to evade peace officer

•         Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose X 2

•         Criminal Code 129(a) – Resist peace officer

•         Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000 

21 year old Darren Curtis Lagrelle faces the following charges:

•         Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

•         Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000

•         Criminal Code 117.01(1) – Possession of weapon contrary to prohibition order X 2 

19 year old Liticia Helen Willier faces the following charges:

•         Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

•         Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000

•         Criminal Code 733.1(1) – Fail to comply with probation X 2

All three made their first court appearance in Red Deer on September 18; Willer is scheduled to appear again on September 27 at 9:30 am and Matheson and Lagrelle are both scheduled to appear again on October 11 at 9:30 am.
