A 58 year old Red Deer man was killed in yesterday’s (Jan 11th) crash on the QE2 near Lacombe involving 2 semi-trucks.

It happened about 4 pm.

RCMP say an unoccupied semi with two empty enclosed trailers was stopped on the side of the highway waiting for repairs when another semi heading southbound slammed into the back of the rear trailer.

The Red Deer man was driving the southbound semi and was pronounced dead at the scene.  No one else was hurt.

Emergency triangles were in place around the stopped semi at the time of the crash.

Southbound QE2 traffic was diverted onto Highway 2A for more than 7 hours.

Innisfail and Ponoka Traffic Services along with an RCMP Collision Analyst from Red Deer continue to investigate the crash.
