Non-profit groups in Red Deer are now able to access funding from the City to enhance their ability to deliver recreation programs, service and events.

City of Red Deer launched a new recreation grant program of $100,000 per year, with each application eligible for up to $5,000.

Supporting these type organizations is something Neighbourhood Facilities & Sport Supervisor with the City of Red Deer Deb Comfort said is extremely important.

“We define recreation in a fairly broad brush. It includes sport, fitness, play, activity and outdoor pursuits. This grant is designed to support those organizations, to support and enhance their ability to deliver those to our citizens and residents.”

“We’re very excited about that opportunity for them.”

Comfort explains the process.

“There’s two application timelines during the year. The next one is Oct. 1 and they can just go on the City website and send a recreation grant or they can search in the bar on top and all the application forms are there, the process is there and application guide to explain things.”

Applications will also be accepted by April 1 of the funding year.
