Red Deer College has opted to deliver online programs for the Fall of 2020 to assist instructors and staff with the organization of their courses.

“In the spirit of innovation, this situation provides us an opportunity to view teaching and learning differently. I’m proud of our faculty and staff who have risen to this challenge during the past couple of months in the face of COVID-19, and I am confident they will continue to do so into the fall semester,” said Dr. Peter Nunoda, RDC President.

Additionally, Nunoda has joined the Economic Recovery Task Force to assist with the work of local, provincial and federal governments, and industry, as they tackle the economic challenges faced as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The task force will focus on three main themes:

  • Economic resiliency to address immediate needs.
  • Economic recovery to play a key role in restarting the economy.
  • Economic competitiveness to focus on long-term opportunities for Alberta’s colleges to build Canada's economic strength.

The President says the decision to keep classes online was based on the health and well-being of students, faculty, and staff. Even with restrictions lifting, other areas of the College’s operations would still be affected. In the meantime, RDC’s leaders and faculty are deciding appropriate learning opportunities to accommodate classes that have labs, practical and clinical experiences, and industry-related training.

“During this unique time, we are very dedicated to supporting our students in a variety of ways. Letting them know early about the online course delivery for the fall will be beneficial as they process and plan for the change,” said Dr. Peter Nunoda, RDC President.

Planning for summer and fall operations is in active discussion to determine appropriate ways of handling student services such as residence accommodations, facility usage, athletics programming, and other items.

Students can begin registering for the Fall of 2020 on June 9th.
