Red Deer’s city manager Craig Curtis has announced that he will be retiring.

According to a statement from the City of Red Deer, the last day of Curtis’ contract is March 3, 2019.

“Knowing the City of Red Deer is made up of dedicated, skilled and service-oriented people makes the decision to retire easier,” says Curtis in the news release.

“This team of talented staff serves the public each and every day with integrity and professionalism, and I am confident they will continue working to move our city forward.”

Curtis’ career in public service has spanned 43 years, including 11 as the City of Red Deer’s top administrator.

He was involved in several projects including Waskasoo Park planning, building of the Centrium, railway relocation and planning for the 2019 Canada Winter Games.

“City manager Craig Curtis has exemplified the City of Red Deer’s corporate values of respect, integrity, service and excellence through his service to the organization and our community,” reads a statement from Mayor Tara Veer.

“City council is thankful for the progress he has influenced during his tenure with the city. Manager Curtis has served the organization well and positioned it for a strong future.”

Council will start its search for Curtis’ successor in the coming months.
