Red Deer College unveiled their latest edition of their annual college alumni magazine Notebook today, at a ceremony that paid tribute to some of RDC's most successful alumni.

Owner of Nexus Energy Technologies and RDC alumni Ryan Smith started his career with a bachelor of science in engineering at RDC in 1996.

His company now employs 50 people across Canada, and another six down in Houston, Texas, where his American office is located.

Smith's company specializes in coil tubing pressure equipment which enables companies to perform safe well intervention operations, something Smith says is now used all over the world, but it all starts in Red Deer.

"It's engineered, designed, fabricated, tested, everything in Red Deer. Red Deer College allowed me to have that engineering base to be able to get there. We also employ machinists, welders, and a lot of trades people that have attended RDC, and we really feel it's a great location to be at the place we call home."

Cory Kaun is another alumnus who was honored in this edition of Notebook.

Co-owner of Larkaun Homes, Kaun was honored not only for his business success, but for his contribution to the Paving our Future Campaign, where anyone can purchase a paving stone and engrave their name on it.

The paving stones will be placed along the entrance way to the under construction Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre, something Kaun says was an easy donation to make.

"It was a no brainer for our family and other businesses to have that legacy. For as long as the building is going to stand, there's going to be a paving stone with either your business or your family’s legacy on it".

President and CEO of RDC Joel Ward say’s their alumni continue to support the school years after graduation.

"The alumni are a very important part of our institution. We continue to grow the numbers of our alumni, having folks come back who have started their careers at RDC. And this campaign they have started on the paving stones, I think it's just another example of the great contribution they make to our institution over time".
